Information You Submit
Terms Entered in Search
A name, place, or other term entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. Polk County Recent Arrests does not store or log those query terms on its own systems. The provider’s privacy terms govern its handling of the request.
Messages Sent to Us
If you email us or submit a contact message, we retain the information needed to read and answer it. We do not share the message outside our organization unless the law requires disclosure.
Information Collected Automatically
Normal web systems may record technical data when a page loads, including:
- Your internet protocol address.
- Browser name and version.
- Device category and operating system.
- Pages viewed and time spent on them.
- The referring website, when supplied.
- Dates and timestamps for requests.
Cookie Use
Cookies help measure how visitors move through the site and which pages work well. You may block cookies through browser settings, though parts of the site or an outside tool may then behave differently.
Reasons We Use Data
Collected information supports limited operating needs:
- Keeping pages available, stable, and responsive.
- Sending a search request to the provider selected by the user.
- Understanding which Polk County resources visitors find useful.
- Diagnosing errors, abuse, or security problems.
- Displaying advertising that may reflect general interests.
Links and Advertising Systems
This site links to Polk County Jail rosters and booking feeds, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Courts Online, Iowa Department of Corrections pages, federal locators, and outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination’s privacy policy controls its data practices.
Advertising partners may use their own systems to measure visits across websites and select interest-based ads. That activity occurs on partner systems rather than this site’s own record store.
Parties That May Receive Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Search partners that process a query you submit.
- Analytics vendors that measure site use.
- Advertising networks that serve or measure ads.
- Law enforcement or another government body responding to a valid legal order.
Iowa Code chapter 22 governs access to Iowa public records, but it does not replace this notice about the site’s own data practices.
How Information Is Protected
We use ordinary technical and administrative safeguards appropriate to a public website. No internet-connected service is fully secure, however, so we cannot promise that data will never be intercepted, lost, or accessed without authorization.
Visitors Under Eighteen
This site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. A parent or guardian who believes a minor submitted information may use the Contact Us page to request deletion.
Your Privacy Choices
Subject to applicable law and practical verification, you may:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Ask for deletion of eligible information.
- Object to or opt out of certain processing.
Changes to This Notice
We may revise this Privacy Notice as services or legal duties change. A new version takes effect when it is posted here with its updated effective date.
